London: Luxury automaker Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has unveiled a new two-seater electric convertible, named Project Nightingale, marking a bold step in its evolving electric mobility strategy.
The BMW-owned brand announced that only 100 units of the exclusive model will be produced, with each car to be hand-built at its Goodwood headquarters in West Sussex. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2028, making it one of the most anticipated ultra-luxury electric vehicles in the coming years.
A blend of luxury, heritage and innovation
Project Nightingale combines cutting-edge electric technology with Rolls-Royce’s signature craftsmanship. The company said the vehicle will offer “virtually no mechanical noise,” delivering a near-silent driving experience — a hallmark of electric powertrains.
The car measures approximately 5.76 metres in length, comparable to the brand’s flagship Rolls-Royce Phantom. It features a long bonnet and a distinctive “torpedo-shaped” design, inspired by experimental EX models from the 1920s and the elegance of the Art Deco era.
Ultra-exclusive production and pricing
Rolls-Royce confirmed that just 100 units of Project Nightingale will be manufactured, emphasising exclusivity. Each model will be customised and handcrafted, reflecting the company’s coachbuilding heritage.
While the exact price has not been disclosed, the company indicated that the model will be positioned between its Private Commission and Coachbuild offerings. Industry estimates suggest that such bespoke vehicles can range from over £5 lakh (₹5 lakh equivalent in UK pricing context) to upwards of £20 million (around ₹200 crore), depending on customisation.
Electric vision with flexibility
The launch comes shortly after Rolls-Royce revised its earlier commitment to transition to electric vehicles by 2030. The company has now stated that it will continue offering petrol-powered models beyond that timeline, citing evolving market demand.
Despite this shift, Project Nightingale highlights Rolls-Royce’s continued investment in electric mobility, particularly in the ultra-luxury segment where innovation and exclusivity go hand in hand.
Leadership perspective
Chris Brownridge described the project as one of the brand’s most ambitious creations to date.
“Some of the most discerning Rolls-Royce clients in the world asked us for our most ambitious work,” he said, adding that the car brings together design freedom, electric performance, and an unmatched open-top driving experience.
He further termed Project Nightingale as the “most extravagant expression” of what the brand can achieve today.
Conclusion
With Project Nightingale, Rolls-Royce is pushing the boundaries of luxury electric vehicles, blending heritage-inspired design with modern technology. Limited production, bespoke craftsmanship, and silent performance make it a standout offering in the evolving EV market.
As the global shift towards electrification continues, such ultra-premium models are likely to redefine expectations of sustainability, performance, and exclusivity in the luxury automotive segment.
