Bagalkote: District police have arrested two primary suspects in the feticide case involving the death of Sonali Kadam, a Maharashtra native who succumbed to a botched abortion by a fake doctor in Jayalakshmi Nagarn in Mahalingapur town.

The suspects, identified as Sanjay Gowli and Sangeeta Gowli, Sonali’s father and mother, residents of Dudagaon village in Sangali district, were arrested by Mahalingapur police on Thursday night. The duo was brought to Mahalingapur police station on Friday by Jamakhandi DySP Shantakumar. The case was investigated by Banahatti CPI Sanjeeva Balagara and Station Officer Praveen Baragi, who then produced the accused in court and subsequently remanded them to Jamkhandi Jail.

So far, five individuals have been arrested in connection with this case. Among those still sought by authorities are Dr. Kothwale of Ramananda Nagar and a sonographer from Miraja Scanning Center. Kavita Badanavara of Mahalingpur, accused of performing the illegal abortion, filed for bail through her lawyer on Thursday. However, the Jamkhandi Court rejected her application during the hearing.

Details of the Feticide

Kavita Badanavar was reportedly conducting illegal abortions at her residence. The arrested parents, Sanjay and Sangeeta Gowli, revealed to the police that they received Rs 2 lakh for each abortion carried out, working in collusion with the sonographer from Miraj Scanning Center and Dr. Kothwale of Athaniya. They specifically targeted female fetuses for termination, as confirmed by the Maruti checks conducted by the involved medical professionals.
