In a disturbing turn of events, a newborn was abducted from the district government hospital in Bagalkot during the early hours of Saturday. The infant was reportedly taken by an unknown woman who impersonated a nurse to gain access to the maternity ward.

As per hospital officials, the woman entered the ward around 4 am and told the mother that the baby was struggling to breathe. Trusting her, the mother allowed the supposed nurse to carry the child away. However, the woman quietly exited the hospital with the baby and vanished without a trace.

The infant’s mother, Maboobi, a local resident of Bagalkot, had delivered the baby at around 7 pm on Friday evening. She is devastated by the sudden disappearance of her newborn and is said to be inconsolable.

Soon after the incident was reported, Bagalkot Superintendent of Police Amarnath Reddy rushed to the hospital. He met the heartbroken parents and gathered details of the sequence of events leading up to the kidnapping.

Speaking to reporters, SP Reddy stated that a special investigation has been launched. Three dedicated teams, under the leadership of Additional SP Mahanteshwar Jiddi, are working around the clock to trace the woman and rescue the infant.

Authorities have also begun scanning CCTV footage and taking statements from hospital staff and other patients who were present at the time.

The police have assured the family that the culprit will be caught soon and the baby safely reunited with the parents.
