Bellary: In a unique and ancient tradition, devotees from Shivpur Gollarhatti in Kudligi taluk performed a ritual to pray for rain on Monday. The ceremony, passed down through generations, involved waving a black blanket on Mincheri hill to invoke the gods to bring much-needed rainfall to the area.
The ritual, led by village leaders and devotees, began with a pooja to Rain Mallappa at Mincheri Gudda, followed by the placement of two boys on a black carpet. The unmarried Kori boys then waved the blanket towards the west, symbolising the call for rain. The ceremony concluded with the distribution of prasadam among the participants.
This ancient practice is rooted in the belief that it will bring rain to the area, which has been experiencing inadequate rainfall. The devotees, including Doddappa and Borappa, expressed their faith in the ritual’s effectiveness.
The ceremony was attended by village leaders, including Bugudi Doddappa, Borappa B., Shiva, Gaudra Yarappa, B. Yarappa, Thimmappa, Ramappa, and Hatti masters, as well as villagers and youths. This collective effort reflects the community’s desperation for rain and their reliance on traditional practices to address their concerns.
