Bengaluru: The CCB police arrested BBMP former mayor Sampat Raj, who is the 52nd accused in the the August 11 DJ Halli- KG Halli violence, which claimed four lives.
The house of sitting local MLA Akhanda Srinivasamurthy was also set on fire.
According to the sources, he was arrested from his residence in Benson Town.
It may be recalled that the CCB police have been trying to arrest him since September 14. However, he was able to avoid his arrest till now.
Sampat Raj is facing the charges of instigating the violence for political gains. Even though he and local MLA Akhanda Shrinivasamurthy belong to the same party (Congress), Sampat Raj was planning to contest from Pulakeshinagar constituency in the 2023 assembly election.
He is a staunch supporter of KPCC president DK Shivakumar.
However, the violence broke out after a Facebook post of Naveen, nephew of the local MLA against a particular community went viral.
