The long-anticipated railway project linking Belagavi and Dharwad via Kittur is on the verge of becoming a reality. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan announced on Monday that the land acquisition process for the railway line is nearly complete. The next step is handing over the land to the railway department, which is expected to float tenders for construction within the next few months.

Out of the total 1,200 acres needed, 600 acres had already been acquired earlier. In the last five months, the remaining land acquisition was finalized. Compensation has already been disbursed for 750 acres, and funds for the remaining land are expected soon. Roshan emphasized that this project is a result of joint efforts by the central and state governments.

The new rail line will allow direct train services from Belagavi to Dharwad, bypassing the Londa route, and enabling superfast express trains to run via Kittur and Desoor, enhancing connectivity to Bengaluru.

In another significant development, the government is preparing to distribute land ownership documents. The deputy commissioner shared that 3,700 title deeds have been readied for residents of revenue villages and hamlets in Belagavi district. This initiative is part of the state’s broader goal of providing land rights to the underserved.

The chief minister is scheduled to officially distribute the title deeds in a ceremony to be held in Hosapete next month.
