Hundreds of devotees from Belagavi and nearby regions gathered on Friday evening to celebrate the annual feast of St Anthony’s Church at Camp, honouring the saint widely venerated as the “wonder worker” for his many miracles.

Bishop Derek Fernandes of the Belgaum Diocese led the Eucharistic celebration and, in his homily, reflected on the enduring legacy of St Anthony of Padua. “St Anthony remains a beacon of humility, faith, and service. As the patron saint of lost things, countless people turn to him in their moments of need, and many receive spiritual and material solace,” he said.

The bishop urged the faithful to emulate St Anthony’s simplicity, compassion for the poor, and commitment to peace. “His life challenges us to bring healing and Gospel joy to a world in turmoil,” he added.

Parish Priest Fr Vijay Mendith, welcoming the gathering, noted the growing number of devotees—Christians and people of other faiths—visiting the church regularly, especially on Tuesdays, seeking the intercession of St Anthony. “Many return with testimonies of peace and blessings,” he said.

The celebration saw a large turnout of priests, nuns, and the laity. A solemn procession carrying the statue of St Anthony around the church campus marked the conclusion of the feast.
