A wave of house burglaries over the past 20 days has left residents of Belagavi city and its outskirts gripped by fear, as over 35 thefts have been reported. Thieves have primarily targeted unoccupied homes, breaking in through rear windows and looting cash and jewellery from cupboards.
Thefts have occurred almost daily, typically during the late-night hours, with burglars reportedly breaking locks while homeowners are either asleep or away. The systematic nature of the crimes has led police to suspect the involvement of an organized group, believed to be a ‘Mysuru Gang’.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Niranjan Raje Urs confirmed ongoing investigations and said,
“Our analysis of recent incidents suggests a single gang is behind these thefts. We’re closely monitoring their patterns and movements. Arrests will follow soon.”
In response, the Belagavi Police have ramped up night patrols and urged residents to be especially vigilant, particularly if leaving homes unattended. The department emphasized the importance of community awareness in tackling the surge.
Despite intensified efforts, the spike in thefts continues to pose a challenge for law enforcement, as citizens demand stronger action to restore a sense of security in the affected neighborhoods.
