Maya, a dog from the Belagavi District Police Dog Squad, has claimed the top spot in the state for her exceptional explosives detection skills, while Rosie from the Belagavi City Police Squad secured second place for her contributions to criminal investigations.
The state-level Police Duty Meet, held in Bengaluru on November 20-21, saw police dog squads from across Karnataka compete. Maya’s stellar performance in explosives detection earned her the first position, and Rosie impressed the judges with her investigative skills, placing second in her category.
Maya is handled by Malkari Yamgar and Manjunath Kasavannavar, while Rosie’s handlers are Rudrayya Mavinakattimath and Santosh Patil. Each police dog is trained to respond exclusively to the commands of their two handlers.
The Belagavi North Division, in total, won 8 medals at the event, including 2 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze. The meet featured 328 officers and 57 dogs from across various districts in Karnataka, including Vijayapura, Bagalkot, and Dharwad.
Maya’s training is overseen by District Police Chief Dr. Bhimashankar Guled, while Rosie’s supervision falls under Police Commissioner Yada Martin Marbaniang.
