Jubilation swept through Nanavadi village in Karnataka’s Belagavi district as word spread that Beerappa Siddappa Doni, a young man from Amage village in Maharashtra, had secured 551st rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, one of India’s most grueling tests.

Currently on vacation at his relatives’ home in Nanavadi, Beerappa’s achievement united both villages in celebration, especially his sheep-rearing Kuruba community, which gathered in the very pastures where they graze cattle to honor the milestone.

A B.Tech graduate named after his family deity, Beerappa once dreamed of joining the armed forces, inspired by his elder brother serving in the Indian Army. Though unable to appear for military officer exams, he worked briefly with India Post before quitting to chase his civil services dream.

Three attempts later, perseverance paid off.

With aspirations of joining the Indian Police Service (IPS), Beerappa is now seen as a symbol of hope and ambition by his community. His father, Siddappa Doni, proudly remarked, “People say he’ll be a senior police officer. I know this will fulfill his long-held dream.”

His uncle, Yallappa Gaddi, echoed the village’s hope: “We wish for him to serve honestly and uplift people like us. His success will inspire many more youngsters to aim high.”

This remarkable journey from rural roots to national recognition is a reminder that dreams, no matter how distant, are always within reach.
