Incessant rains over the past four days have wreaked havoc in the Jamboti-Kankumbi and Western Ghats regions, inundating rivers and rivulets. The Malaprabha River is in spate, with the Swayambhu Maurti Mandir near Habanatti village on the verge of submersion, likely to be fully submerged by Wednesday night.
Heavy rainfall has also led to the uprooting of trees along the Belagavi-Goa road via Chorla. Sources report that fallen trees and branches have disrupted electricity supply in Kankumbi village since Tuesday, causing significant inconvenience to the residents of Kankumbi and surrounding villages.
The Amgaon and Kankumbi regions typically receive 5,000 to 6,000 mm of rainfall annually. However, with heavy rains forecasted for July, rivers in the region are expected to cross the danger mark, potentially submerging low-lying bridges.
Despite the challenges, farmers in the Western Khanapur region have expressed satisfaction with the ongoing rains, which are beneficial for their crops.
