In an unexpected move, the Income Tax (IT) Commissionerate of Karnataka and Goa launched raids on the homes and offices of four well-known businessmen in Belagavi city early Tuesday morning.
The officials targeted properties linked to industrialists Vinod Doddannavar and Pushpadant Doddannavar, along with the residence of Ashok Humbarwadi in Ganeshpur and businessman Ajit Patel’s home in the Camp area. The Doddannavar family has significant stakes in sugar, iron, and granite industries, alongside managing educational institutions and sugar mills in Kagawad taluk.
Ashok Humbarwadi heads Ashok Iron Works Ltd, a globally recognized foundry group, while Ajit Patel is another influential figure in the city’s business landscape.
Local police officers accompanied the IT team, ensuring security as officials meticulously examined financial records and other crucial documents. The IT Department has yet to release an official statement regarding the operation.
