BELAGAVI: The Karnataka Legislature made history on Monday by conducting a 15-hour-long session, breaking a decade-old record. Starting at 10 a.m., the proceedings continued uninterrupted—except for a lunch break and minor disruptions—until 12:55 a.m., showcasing rare dedication among lawmakers.

The extended session witnessed robust participation from leaders across parties, including three state ministers, seven Congress MLAs, four JD(S) legislators, one BJP MLA, and an independent member. Speaker UT Khader and Deputy Speaker Rudrappa Lamani skillfully managed the session, ensuring order and productivity.

This remarkable feat surpassed the previous record set during the 2009-2013 assembly under Speaker KG Bopaiah, which extended till 1:45 a.m. Expressing satisfaction, Speaker Khader hailed the achievement, while Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi stressed the significance of the prolonged discussion in addressing public issues.

Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda and Higher Education Minister Dr. MC Sudhakar remained present throughout, contributing to the assembly’s productivity. The session passed five bills and addressed calling attention motions, with members actively presenting their concerns.

In a notable moment of camaraderie, JD(S) MLA Karemma G Naik from Devadurga patiently waited for her turn, while Indi MLA Yashvantaraygoud V Patil graciously yielded his slot to her, exemplifying cooperation.

The unprecedented session underscores a renewed commitment to legislative discussions and public welfare.
