In a dramatic turn of events, a police inspector from Vijayapura staged a protest in Belagavi district, Karnataka, by placing his father’s lifeless body in front of a police station, accusing a fellow officer of misconduct that led to his father’s demise.
The incident unfolded early Saturday at Harogeri police station in Raybag taluk. Inspector Ashoka Sadalagi of Devadurga police station alleged that Sub-Inspector (SI) Malappa Poojari’s high-handedness contributed to his father Annappa’s death.
According to reports, Annappa was assaulted on his farmland by trespassers on January 10. When he sought police assistance, officers detained him instead, allegedly subjecting him to mistreatment for an entire day. By evening, his health deteriorated, and he succumbed to complications at a private hospital on Saturday.
Furious over the injustice, Inspector Sadalagi placed his father’s body outside the police station, demanding action against SI Poojari. The protest only ended after intervention by Chikkodi Dy SP.
It is also alleged that the SI had filed an atrocity case against Sadalagi’s brother on February 2, in response to a counter-complaint by the accused trespassers. The police department has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
