Belagavi witnessed an energetic start to the Lokamanya Marathon-2025 as Indian tennis star Sania Mirza flagged off the event on Sunday morning. Over 3,000 participants, ranging from children to seniors, joined the marathon, representing various states of India and even a few international runners.

The marathon, organized at the CPEd Ground, featured three categories—10 km, 5 km, and 3 km. It officially began at 6:30 am in the presence of notable figures, including Lokamanya Society founder-president Kiran Thakur, Brigadier Joydeep Mukherjee of MLIRC, MLA Shashikala Jolle, former MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimath, and Malagouda Patil.

Expressing her gratitude for the warm reception in Belagavi, Sania Mirza addressed the enthusiastic crowd. “The love and respect I’ve received here are truly heartwarming. I promise to return to Belagavi and spend more time with its wonderful people,” she said.

Sania also took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of fitness and encouraged residents to prioritize a healthy lifestyle. Her inspiring words and presence added a special charm to the marathon, making it a memorable event for the participants and spectators alike.
