Vishwaraj Sugar Industries Limited (VSIL) is set to establish a new sugar factory in Belagavi, with plans for a crushing capacity of 5,000 tonnes of cane per day (TCD) and a 150-kilo liter per day (klpd) distillery. The project, with an investment of approximately ₹250 crore, was approved by the Commerce and Industries Department last July, which issued a distance certificate for the facility to be located in Navage Village, Belgaum district.
Currently, VSIL operates a sugar factory in Bellad Bagewadi with a crushing capacity of 10,500 TCD, a 34 MW cogeneration plant, and a 100 klpd distillery. The company is expanding its operations with the near completion of a 150 klpd distillery and a 22 MW power plant. According to Mukesh Kumar, Executive Director of VSIL, they are awaiting approval from the State Pollution Control Board to begin operations for the expanded facilities.
Construction of the new plant at Navage is slated to begin in the next financial year. The new venture will feature a 5,000 TCD sugar factory and a 150 klpd distillery, with the ₹250 crore investment being financed through a mix of debt and equity.
VSIL, established in 1995, is an integrated sugarcane-based company engaged in sugar production, power generation, and ethanol manufacturing. Its facility in Bellad Bagewadi is located in a High Recovery Zone for sugar as classified by the Government of India.
