Belagavi: While the Central Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had announced the ‘Make in India’ project claiming that it will boost local industries, the information given under the Right to Information (RTI) Act by the same government says that it has no state-wise data on industries and business started in India under the ambitious programme.
In reply to RTI activist Bhimangouda Paragonda, the Ministry of Industries and Commerce said that it has not maintained any state-wise data on industries that have started under the programme.
Reacting to the reply, Paragonda wondered what was the government’s objective or what it has achieved if it has not maintained a record of any industry or business that was started under the scheme in the country.
“After launching the ‘Make in India’ programme, the government took up a huge publicity campaign by claiming that the scheme will help India become self-reliant in industrial production. But looking at the reply, it appears that the objective has failed,” he said.
He said that, as per the government’s statement, the programme is to give an opportunity to local investors to invest in the local manufacturing sector to prevent foreign companies from making money in India.
“Now, the government gone contrary to its own stand by giving more opportunities to foreign investors. Which means that the local industries have no scope in India,” Paragonda said.
Claiming that the government itself says that it has earmarked Rs 140 crores for the programme, he said that the government officials have failed to give a break-up of the funds used for the project.
