Residents of Bengaluru once again grappled with the all-too-familiar challenge of urban flooding as heavy downpours battered the city. Numerous homes were inundated, and key roads became impassable, leaving people stranded and frustrated. Social media quickly filled with complaints, sharply criticizing the city’s drainage system and civic infrastructure.
The intense rainfall caused widespread waterlogging, traffic standstills, and power interruptions throughout many parts of Bengaluru. In several neighborhoods, water levels rose to knee-height, vehicles stalled in flooded streets, and residents voiced their anger over the city’s persistent infrastructure failures.
Sai Layout in Horamavu emerged as one of the hardest-hit zones, with streets submerged under nearly 4 to 5 feet of water. Viral videos showed residents wading through deep water, highlighting the scale of the disruption. In NC Colony near Tannery Road, rainwater breached homes, adding to residents’ woes.
Traffic snarls became widespread, especially in places like Panathur S Cross, the upper ramp of the Domlur flyover, and Koramangala. Stranded vehicles were pushed by commuters struggling through knee-deep water as the city’s traffic slowed to a near halt.
Social media users expressed their outrage, blaming the government for neglecting flood mitigation efforts. Comments highlighted frustration with ongoing projects such as tunnel roads, BBMP restructuring, and metro expansions, which critics say overshadow urgent drainage repairs. One user mocked the situation, calling Bengaluru a “swimming pool” after routine rainfalls, while others ridiculed empty political promises about infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert across Bengaluru and surrounding districts, warning of continued heavy rain and thunderstorms for the next few days. IMD Bengaluru Centre Director N Puviarasu said that the cyclonic circulation pattern would keep the rains coming, affecting multiple districts across Karnataka, including coastal and inland regions.
Residents are bracing for more disruption, hoping the city will finally address its chronic flooding problems before the next downpour.
