Bengaluru: BBMP Deploys Jet Patcher Machine to Tackle Potholes Efficiently
In a significant move to enhance road safety and reduce travel disruptions, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has begun using a state-of-the-art ‘Jet Patcher Machine’ for rapid pothole repairs across the city. This innovative machine enables the patching of potholes ranging from 150 to 180 square metres on major roads in just one hour, allowing vehicles to pass immediately after repairs.
Zonal Joint Commissioner Ajay announced the initiative during the inauguration of pothole repair work near the Pantarapalya-Nayandahalli metro station in the Rajarajeshwari Nagar zone. He highlighted the machine’s efficiency, noting that it can accomplish in one hour what would usually require ten workers.
“The Jet Patcher Machine operates by cutting into the road, pouring a special mixture through a pipe, and levelling it with a compactor. This ensures that vehicles can continue their journeys shortly after repairs,” Ajay explained.
As of now, the Rajarajeshwari Nagar zone, which covers 20 wards and includes 2,045 km of roads—216.45 km of which are major roads—has identified 2,443 potholes since May 20. Of these, 2,408 have been repaired, and efforts are ongoing to address the remaining 35.
Ajay also mentioned proactive steps taken to address potholes, stating that all possible measures are being implemented to resolve the issues, especially those affecting major thoroughfares. The local ‘Road Pothole Alert System’ has recorded 461 complaints from the public, resulting in 86 potholes being repaired, while 302 are still awaiting attention.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in Bengaluru’s ongoing battle against potholes, promising safer and smoother journeys for all commuters in the city.
