Bengaluru Cantonment Station Revamp: Phased Opening Planned
To ease public inconvenience amid ongoing delays, the South Western Railway Zone will open the revamped Bengaluru Cantonment Railway Station in two phases. A new 45m-long, 5m-wide footbridge, connecting Station Road and Millers Road, will be accessible without a platform ticket.
The ₹480 crore redevelopment project, launched by PM Narendra Modi on June 20, 2022, aims to transform Karnataka’s oldest railway station into a world-class facility. Originally set for completion by October 2025, sources indicate delays.
The station’s air-conditioned south-side building is expected to open within 6-7 months, though underground parking will take longer. The north-side entrance will also require more time, with a new parking facility accommodating 500 cars and an equal number of two-wheelers at both ends.
A key highlight is the 136m-long, 30m-wide air concourse suspended above rail tracks. Additionally, suburban train platforms 1A, B, C & D will have dedicated entry and exit points for smooth passenger movement.
For the first time, the station will feature escalators and lifts, enhancing accessibility. It will also integrate with Bengaluru Metro’s upcoming Pink Line, improving connectivity.
