Bengaluru gears up for a safe and festive New Year celebration
With an estimated 7-8 lakh revelers expected to flood Bengaluru‘s streets on New Year’s Eve, Karnataka’s Home Minister, G Parameshwara, has assured citizens of strong safety measures to ensure peaceful celebrations. Parameshwara emphasized the critical need for public safety, particularly for women, during both Christmas and New Year festivities.
The Home Minister outlined strategies to manage crowd control and traffic flow in the city’s central areas throughout the holiday season. Measures include additional app-based cab services and extended Namma Metro operations on December 31, aimed at facilitating smooth travel for partygoers.
To manage the massive crowds expected in the central business district, Bengaluru police will enforce traffic restrictions similar to previous years. Parameshwara also issued a stern warning against drunk driving, assuring that violators would face severe penalties. The Bengaluru Traffic Police have already launched a special campaign against driving under the influence, inspecting over 60,000 vehicles and issuing fines and license cancellations for violations.
Reflecting on past festive seasons, the Home Minister acknowledged the challenges the city faced and assured proactive measures to prevent similar incidents. He also mentioned that the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner has taken comprehensive steps to ensure a safe environment for all. With these robust safety measures, Bengaluru is set to usher in the New Year with joy and security.
