
Bengaluru Police Crack Down Ahead: Drugs, Trafficking, and Overstaying Foreigne
In a preemptive drive before New Year celebrations, Bengaluru Police conducted surprise inspections on November 29 and 30 across residences, bars, hotels, lodges, and restaurants, seizing 1.1 kg of ganja, arresting three drug peddlers, and rescuing six foreign nationals forced into prostitution.
City Police Commissioner B Dayananda confirmed that 29 foreign nationals overstaying illegally were detained and handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for deportation. He described the initiative as a preventive measure to combat drug-related and criminal activities, adding that similar actions will intensify as New Year festivities near.
During the operation:
- 380 residences of drug offenders were inspected.
- 1,633 bars/restaurants, 1,020 hotels/lodges, and 1,113 houses of known offenders were searched.
- 12 women beggars were detained, and 16 children were rescued.
Public awareness was a key focus, with anti-drug and cybercrime sessions held in 460 educational institutions and 302 hostels to educate students. Citizens have been encouraged to report illegal activities by dialing 112.
The crackdown highlights Bengaluru Police’s commitment to ensuring safety and curbing crime during festive times.
