Bengaluru soon to get new double-decker rail-road corridor

A groundbreaking 16-km double-decker flyover combining suburban rail and road connectivity has been proposed between KSR Bengaluru City and Kengeri. This ambitious project, backed by BBMP and K-RIDE, aims to rejuvenate the long-stalled 35-km Parijatha Line linking Whitefield to Kengeri.

The structure will feature a two-lane road flyover (7.5m carriage width per lane) on the first level and the suburban railway line on the second, running parallel to existing tracks. This corridor will streamline travel to Majestic, Jagajeevanram Nagar, Vijayanagar, NICE Road, and Kempegowda Layout, slashing travel time from Majestic to Kempegowda Layout to just 20 minutes, down from an hour.

With suburban rail ridership projected to reach 1.29 lakh passengers per peak hour by 2041—outpacing metro capacity—experts stress the necessity of this dual-infrastructure model. The estimated cost stands at ₹2,611 crore, including ₹2,128 crore for construction and ₹483 crore for land acquisition.

This initiative aligns with Bengaluru’s expanding double-decker transit vision, following the 3.35-km Marenahalli Road flyover and upcoming projects on Mathikere-Lottegollahalli and key metro corridors. Karnataka’s leadership remains committed to easing congestion through innovative transport solutions.
