A Bengaluru resident’s humorous yet relatable account of house hunting in the city has gone viral on social media, drawing attention to the rising cost of rental accommodation.
The woman, who runs an Instagram account documenting her experiences in Bengaluru, shared a video describing what she sarcastically called the “cheapest flat” she had found during her search for a home.
Budget search ends in surprise
According to the content creator, she had initially been looking for a one-bedroom apartment but struggled to find options within her budget.
She said a property broker eventually offered to show her a more affordable alternative that would fit her price range.
However, upon visiting the property, she discovered that it was not a one-bedroom apartment but a one room-kitchen (1RK) unit with a monthly rent of ₹25,000.
Using humour and sarcasm, she remarked that the rent was so “cheap” that she felt sorry for the landlord.
Video sparks online debate
The video quickly gained traction online, with many users sharing their own experiences of Bengaluru’s rental market.
Some commenters agreed that rental prices in parts of the city have become increasingly difficult to afford, particularly in areas close to major IT hubs.
Others claimed they had found larger apartments at similar or lower prices in different localities, highlighting the wide variation in rents across Bengaluru.
Housing affordability remains a concern
The viral discussion reflects a broader concern among residents about rising housing costs in the city.
Rapid urban growth, increasing demand from professionals and limited housing supply in key employment corridors have contributed to significant increases in rental prices over recent years.
While Bengaluru remains one of India’s most sought-after destinations for employment and entrepreneurship, many residents continue to grapple with the challenge of finding affordable accommodation close to their workplaces.
The conversation has once again highlighted the importance of balanced urban development and accessible housing options for the city’s growing population
