A suspected attempt to encroach upon a prime police department property in Malleswaram, valued at around ₹80 crore, has come under investigation after an unusual electricity bill discrepancy alerted authorities.

Discrepancy exposes suspected land grab

According to police officials, the issue came to light following irregularities in an electricity bill linked to the property. The anomaly prompted further scrutiny, ultimately uncovering a possible encroachment attempt on the land.

An FIR has been registered at the Malleswaram Police Station based on a complaint filed by Lokayukta Inspector M Kumar from Bengaluru South district.

Accused include officials and private individuals

The police have booked multiple individuals, including M R Mahalakshmi, Krishnamurthy, and Srinath Naragadde. Officials from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) have also been named in the FIR.

Authorities suspect a coordinated effort involving manipulation of official records and utilities to facilitate illegal occupation of the land.

Historic property under threat

The complaint states that the property is over a century old and is officially recorded as police quarters in survey maps dating back to 1913. The premises currently house families of four inspectors along with other police personnel.

Given its historical significance and strategic value, the alleged encroachment attempt has raised serious concerns within the department.

Investigation underway

Police have launched a detailed investigation to determine the extent of the alleged fraud and identify all individuals involved. Officials are examining property records, electricity connections, and administrative approvals linked to the site.

Further action is expected based on the findings of the ongoing probe.

Rising concern over land-related fraud

The case highlights increasing concerns over land encroachment and misuse of official systems in urban areas like Bengaluru, where property values continue to rise sharply.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding public property and ensuring strict action against those involved in illegal activities.
