Bengaluru: Eleven students of a private residential school in Bengaluru were admitted to hospital late on Thursday after they allegedly fell ill due to suspected food poisoning following dinner at their hostel.
The incident occurred at Ambedkar Residential School in Basavanapura, Bengaluru South district.
Students complained of severe stomach pain
According to officials, the students began experiencing severe stomach pain shortly after consuming rice and leafy vegetable curry served during the evening meal.
The affected students were rushed to a district hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. Authorities said all 11 students are in stable condition.
The residential school houses around 30 students.
Health officials begin investigation
Health department officials have launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the suspected food poisoning.
Food samples from the hostel kitchen, along with other relevant materials, are expected to be examined to establish whether contaminated food caused the students’ illness. Authorities are also reviewing food preparation and hygiene practices at the institution.
Officials said further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
Fresh concerns over hostel food safety
The latest incident comes just days after another suspected food poisoning case at a residential school in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district, where more than 30 students reportedly fell ill after consuming food served at their hostel.
The recurring incidents have raised fresh concerns about food safety standards and hygiene in residential schools across the state, with parents and education authorities calling for stricter monitoring of hostel kitchens and meal preparation.
The investigation into the Bengaluru incident is ongoing.
