Bengaluru: A 26-year-old engineer died after falling from the 16th floor of a residential apartment building in Bengaluru on Wednesday, January 7, under circumstances that are currently under investigation by the police. The deceased has been identified as Nikshap, who had recently returned to India after completing his education in electronic engineering in Europe.

The incident occurred at Prince Town Apartments in Shettihalli, within the limits of Bagalagunte police station. Police officials confirmed that Nikshap fell from a high-rise apartment where his parents reside and was declared dead on the spot.

Educational background and recent return to India

According to police sources, Nikshap had pursued higher education in electronic engineering in Europe and had completed his studies successfully. After spending several years abroad, he returned to India recently with plans to begin his professional career.

Family members told the police that Nikshap had been exploring employment opportunities and was in the process of settling back into life in India after his return. His sudden death has come as a shock to relatives and acquaintances.

Stay at Gaudiya Matha before incident

Police said that for a couple of days prior to the incident, Nikshap had been staying at the Gaudiya Matha in Hasaraghatta. On Wednesday, he visited his parents, Kishore and Jayashree, at their apartment in Prince Town Apartments, Shettihalli.

It was during this visit that the tragic incident took place. The exact sequence of events leading up to the fall is yet to be clearly established.

Fall from 16th floor

On Wednesday afternoon, Nikshap reportedly fell from the 16th-floor flat of the apartment complex. Residents of the building alerted the authorities after noticing the incident. Police personnel from Bagalagunte police station rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.

Despite immediate attention, Nikshap was found to have sustained fatal injuries due to the fall and was declared dead. There were no immediate indications of the involvement of any other person, police said.

Mental health history disclosed by family

During the preliminary inquiry, Nikshap’s father informed the police that his son had been suffering from schizophrenia for the past few years. Officials stated that this information is being taken into account as part of the investigation.

Police are examining whether the mental health condition may have played a role in the incident. However, officers stressed that no conclusions would be drawn until all aspects of the case are thoroughly investigated.

Case registered, probe underway

A case has been registered by the Bagalagunte police, who have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding Nikshap’s death. Police are questioning family members and collecting statements from residents of the apartment complex.

Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage from the apartment building to understand Nikshap’s movements prior to the fall and to rule out any foul play.

Post-mortem examination ordered

The body was shifted to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru for a post-mortem examination. Police officials said the post-mortem report will help ascertain the exact cause of death and provide clarity on whether the fall was accidental or otherwise.

“The investigation is ongoing. We are awaiting the post-mortem report and other technical evidence before arriving at any conclusion,” a senior police officer said.

Community reaction

Residents of Prince Town Apartments expressed shock over the incident. Many described the family as reserved and said they were unaware of any issues on the day of the incident. The sudden death has raised concerns among residents about mental health awareness and support systems for individuals dealing with psychological conditions.
