A 23-year-old man allegedly jumped to his death from his fourth-floor home in Surat after being scolded by his father, police said on Sunday.
The incident occurred late Friday night at Hamd Park residential society in the Rampura area of the city. The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Danish Motiani.
According to police, Motiani assisted his father in diamond polishing work and also worked occasionally as an autorickshaw driver. Officials said an argument broke out after his father reprimanded him for spending excessive time outdoors.
Following the altercation, the young man reportedly jumped from the fourth floor of the building, sustaining critical head injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Inspector R M Thakor of Lalgate police station said a case of accidental death has been registered and further investigation is underway.
Police officials added that CCTV footage from the area shows Motiani falling and crashing onto a parked light commercial vehicle below the building.
