Amruta Govardhan, 31, the wife of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Govardhan Gopal, has accused her husband and a woman Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) of assault, threats, and attempting to murder her. The complaint, filed at the High Grounds police station, also names the DySP’s father as an accused.

Amruta married Govardhan in 2014, and the couple has a daughter. In her complaint, she claims that Govardhan’s behavior changed after attending training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru in 2022, where he reportedly became close to the woman DySP. Amruta alleges that Govardhan began neglecting his family, and when she confronted him about his relationship with the DySP, he physically assaulted her and threatened to divorce her.

Amruta further alleges that when she attempted to intervene, the DySP threatened to frame her family in false criminal cases and declared she would marry Govardhan after his divorce. Amruta’s complaint describes an incident where her mother-in-law allegedly attempted to set her on fire by pouring kerosene on her. Despite Amruta’s threat to file a complaint, Govardhan and his father reportedly begged for more time to resolve the issues.

She also claims the DySP assaulted her when they met and threatened her life. Amruta approached the DG&IGP in February 2023, but soon after, Govardhan was transferred. The DySP allegedly continued pressuring her for a divorce and even threatened her family with false cases.

Investigations are ongoing into the serious allegations.
