The tragic suicide of 34-year-old software engineer Atul Subhash has taken a new turn, with his father, Pawan Modi, speaking out about the alleged financial motives behind the actions of Atul’s estranged wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family. Atul was found dead at his Bengaluru home on December 9, leaving behind a 90-minute video and a 24-page note accusing his wife and her family of persistent harassment and false legal cases.

Financial Demands and Marital Discord:

Pawan Modi revealed that the marital discord between Atul and Nikita, which had been unresolved for years, played a significant role in his son’s distress. He shared details of a failed mediation attempt in 2021, where Nikita demanded Rs 20 lakh in exchange for a divorce. “She even provided a handwritten list of dowry items,” Modi stated, holding onto this list as proof. He also mentioned that Atul felt his wife was only interested in money and feared the demands would never end, even after paying the amount.

Modi recounted that Atul was willing to pay up to Rs 3 crore to settle the situation but was concerned that it would only lead to more extortion. He also claimed that Nikita’s mother, Nisha Singhania, made derogatory remarks, including one urging Atul to consider suicide.

The Emotional Toll:

Pawan Modi emphasized the emotional toll this situation took on his son, especially in relation to his 4-year-old grandson. “Even on my grandson’s birthday, Atul was not allowed to see him. He brought gifts, but they were refused. It broke him,” Modi said, his voice breaking with emotion.

Calls for Justice:

Modi has made a public appeal to President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and several state leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, to intervene and grant him custody of his grandson. “My grandson deserves a better life, and I seek justice for my son and family,” he said, fighting for the child’s well-being amidst the ongoing legal and emotional turmoil.

Arrests in the Case:

Nikita Singhania, along with her mother and brother, were arrested in connection with Atul Subhash’s suicide. The police have charged them with abetment to suicide, following the disturbing revelations in the video and note. The case has sparked outrage and calls for legal reforms to protect men from similar abuse in marital disputes.
