Poornima Prabhu recently shared a story of her courageous daughter, who stood up to two men harassing her near their Bengaluru home. The incident unfolded just 800 meters from their house when her daughter, in her 20s, was waiting to cross the street. Initially planning to ignore the harassment, she chose instead to confront the men. She yelled at them and rushed towards them, causing them to flee in panic.

Ms. Prabhu expressed immense pride in her daughter’s brave response, reflecting on her own past when she would have likely walked away. “This occurred in an area where everyone knew her, and that’s when it hit her – if she couldn’t walk freely there, what was the point of being there?” she wrote, praising her daughter for challenging the harassers in front of witnesses.

In a follow-up post, Ms. Prabhu noted her daughter’s attire—long sleeves and ankle-length pants—highlighting that harassment isn’t about what a woman wears. She encouraged other women to speak out, emphasizing, “Silence only strengthens this behavior.”

Social media users applauded her daughter’s bravery. One user shared a similar experience from the ’80s, while another warned of potential retaliation but praised the courage to stand up. A third user commended the powerful expression of anger in such situations.
