A shocking case linked to online cricket betting has surfaced in Nagpur, where a 25-year-old accountant allegedly cheated his employer after reportedly losing nearly Rs 2 crore through betting on cricket matches.
Tehsil Police have registered a fraud case against the accused, identified as Jaykumar Anwar Kurre, a resident of the Dipti Signal area.
According to police, the complaint was filed by 61-year-old businessman Shankarlal Khatumal Vaswani, owner of Ashok Hardware located in Loha Oli.
Fraud discovered during bank statement check
Police said Jaykumar had been working as an accountant at the shop for the past two years and was handling financial transactions and banking activities.
The alleged fraud came to light when Vaswani’s son Girish reviewed the business bank account statements and noticed a suspicious withdrawal of Rs 1 lakh made on March 31.
After being questioned, the accused allegedly confessed to creating a separate UPI ID linked to the shop’s bank account and using the money for online cricket betting through a platform identified as ‘Gold 365’.
Accused allegedly lost Rs 2 crore in betting
During questioning, Jaykumar reportedly admitted that he had lost nearly Rs 2 crore over time while betting on cricket matches online.
Shocked by the confession, the businessman approached Tehsil Police Station and lodged a formal complaint.
Police have booked the accused under sections related to cheating, criminal breach of trust and fraud.
Officials said further investigation is underway to trace the money trail, verify financial transactions and examine possible links to illegal online betting networks.
