Actor Divya Suresh has alleged that she and her sister were harassed by an unidentified man late at night on Bengaluru’s Kanakapura Road, with a video of the incident going viral on social media and reigniting concerns over women’s safety in the city.
According to Divya, the incident occurred on the night of June 28 when the sisters were walking towards their parked car after an outing.
Man allegedly followed and harassed sisters
In a post shared on social media, Divya alleged that an unknown man began following them and behaved in an intimidating and inappropriate manner. She claimed the man came close to them, made obscene gestures and continued to harass them, leaving both sisters frightened.
Fearing for their safety, the women rushed into their car and locked the doors.
However, Divya alleged that the man continued to linger outside the vehicle, repeatedly making obscene and threatening gestures, causing them severe mental distress.
Public intervention helps sisters
The situation reportedly escalated until the sisters raised an alarm, attracting the attention of nearby residents.
According to Divya, local residents rushed to the spot, confronted the man and questioned him, following which he fled from the area.
The actor later shared videos of the incident on her Instagram Stories, showing members of the public intervening. The footage has since gone viral, drawing widespread attention and sparking discussions about the safety of women travelling at night in Bengaluru.
No police complaint filed yet
Although the incident has generated significant public reaction online, it is understood that no formal police complaint has been lodged so far.
The viral video has nevertheless prompted calls for authorities to examine the footage, identify the alleged offender and strengthen night-time policing and surveillance in vulnerable public areas.
The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over women’s safety in Bengaluru, with many social media users urging stricter law enforcement and quicker action against incidents of public harassment.
