Bengaluru: Ever thought about what happens to the plastic container from your last food order? The booming food delivery industry generates nearly 3,50,000 tonnes of plastic waste annually, putting immense strain on the environment.
Plastic packaging dominates the sector due to its convenience and affordability, but what if a spill-proof, heat-resistant, and eco-friendly alternative existed?
Aecoz, a Bengaluru-based venture, is redefining food packaging with biodegradable cups, bowls, and containers made from specially coated paper. Founded by Dhanvita Sathyanand, Srinidhi Rajaram, and Bharath Sathyanand, the startup has already prevented over 4 lakh kg of plastic waste and achieved Rs 5.2 crore in revenue.
Starting as hoteliers, the trio identified gaps in the industry, leading to Agrainz, a procurement platform. However, COVID-19 forced them to pivot, and in 2020, they launched Aecoz. Their paper-based packaging, certified 98% biodegradable in 180 days, is crafted from ITC paper reels with a unique water-based coating.
Despite being pricier than plastic, premium brands like MTR, Milano Ice Creams, and Ritz-Carlton have embraced Aecoz. UK markets have also welcomed their sustainable products.
The team is working to reduce costs for small businesses while advocating stricter plastic bans. They believe sustainability isn’t just a trend—it’s a necessity for a healthier future.
