In an amusing fusion of technology and tradition, a Bengaluru-based IIT Kharagpur alumnus has developed an AI-powered tool to gauge the circularity of chapatis. The software, named RotiChecker.ai, has taken social media by storm after its creator, Animesh Chouhan, evaluated a user’s nearly perfect roti, awarding it a 91 out of 100.
What started as a lighthearted experiment quickly gained traction when Chouhan promised to make the link public if his post garnered 420 likes. The internet responded enthusiastically, sending search queries for “roti maker” soaring.
Chouhan jokingly announced he was looking for investors to secure a domain name, offering 10% equity in return. His website teaser, “Dough or Die: The Great Gol Roti Challenge,” has sparked intrigue among perfectionist home cooks eager to test their skills.
Reactions have been a mix of amusement and skepticism. Some users suggested expanding the tool’s capabilities to assess chai color, while others questioned its practicality. One comment humorously compared global AI advancements, saying, “The US has ChatGPT, China has DeepSeek, and we have RotiMeter.ai.” Critics also pointed out that roti thickness impacts taste more than shape.
Chouhan addressed accusations of gender bias, emphasizing that men were also using the tool. “If you assumed this is only for women, that’s on you, not me,” he responded.
