Bengaluru police have apprehended two members of the Bitragunta gang from Andhra Pradesh for stealing valuables from a car using a distraction technique.
The Theft Incident
Gopi and Akhil, the arrested suspects, reportedly traveled to Bengaluru to commit thefts before returning to their hometown. On July 27, 2024, the duo intercepted a car near Belathur Gate in eastern Bengaluru, telling the driver his back tyre was punctured. As the driver stepped out to inspect, one of the men diverted his attention while the other stole valuables worth Rs 12 lakh from the car.
Crackdown on Gang Activity
The suspects were arrested six months later by Kadugodi police while attempting a similar theft. Their arrest has led to the resolution of three attention-diversion thefts in the Kadugodi area.
Separate Mobile Phone Theft Case
In another case, Mahadevapura police arrested Mohammad Salman and Sajid, both 24, for stealing 94 mobile phones worth Rs 30 lakh. Salman would steal phones and hand them over to Sajid, who sold them at discounted prices in Madiwala.
