Bengaluru: The Bengaluru South City Corporation has clarified that full asphalting of Bannerghatta Road has not been undertaken due to ongoing works by the BWSSB.
The statement comes in response to recent reports alleging poor quality road repair work along the busy stretch.
Partial restoration carried out
According to the civic body, BWSSB had earlier laid sewage pipelines on Bannerghatta Main Road, which resulted in damage to the road surface. As an interim measure, approximately one kilometre of the affected stretch between Kalyani Choultry and the IIMB metro station was restored.
Officials emphasised that this was not a full-scale asphalting project but a temporary restoration to facilitate smoother movement of vehicles.
Comprehensive development planned
The corporation also stated that Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Ltd (B-SMILE) has initiated plans for the comprehensive development of Bannerghatta Road.
The proposed project will cover the stretch from Hosur Road to Kalena Agrahara Junction, aiming to upgrade infrastructure and improve overall road conditions.
DPR under preparation
Authorities confirmed that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the development work is currently being prepared. Once finalised and approved, the project is expected to address long-standing issues related to road quality, traffic flow, and urban infrastructure.
Conclusion
The clarification highlights that ongoing utility works have delayed full asphalting of Bannerghatta Road. While temporary repairs have been carried out, a comprehensive upgrade is in the pipeline. Residents and commuters may have to wait until the DPR is finalised and executed for a lasting solution to road conditions on this key Bengaluru corridor.
