Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has prolonged the deadline for its social welfare scheme applications to May 2, giving eligible citizens additional time to benefit from a host of support programs targeting underrepresented and marginalized groups.
These initiatives are focused on uplifting Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), civic workers, financially weaker minorities, persons with disabilities, and individuals from the third-gender community. According to a Deccan Herald report, the goal is to bring real transformation through inclusive benefits across sectors like education, housing, health, and employment.
Unlike symbolic gestures, these welfare programmes aim for meaningful impact — such as assisting students with disabilities in purchasing laptops or offering home construction support under schemes like Onti Mane and Amrita Mahotsav Yojana.
