The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has closed down 21 PG accommodations for failing to meet health and safety regulations. This action is part of an ongoing initiative to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in PG facilities across the city.
Despite repeated warnings, one authorized PG and 20 unauthorized PGs were shut down, as they failed to implement corrective measures. The BBMP cited Sections 305 and 308 of the BBMP Act, 2020, for the immediate closure of these facilities.
Out of 2,193 authorized PGs in Bengaluru, only 1,578 comply with the required regulations, while 615 have not. The BBMP has outlined several guidelines for PG operators, including the installation of CCTV cameras, maintaining adequate space per resident, providing clean bathrooms, and ensuring a valid fire safety certificate. The BBMP will continue to monitor compliance to enhance safety standards for residents.
