The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has announced plans to acquire approximately 71 acres of land for constructing four interchanges along the proposed 74-km Peripheral Ring Road (PRR). This move marks the revival of the acquisition process after a two-year hiatus, spurred by renewed interest from the Congress-led government in advancing the longstanding project.
Previously, the BDA had issued a preliminary notification over two years ago but is now progressing with land acquisition efforts under the renewed government support.
In a recent public notice, the BDA has summoned 258 property owners to provide their land records for verification of ownership or to raise objections regarding the acquisition. The targeted land, intended for cloverleaf interchanges at Tumakuru Road, Ballari Road, Old Madras Road, and Hosur Road, was initially earmarked in April 2022.
This notification comes nearly 17 years after the BDA’s initial final notification for acquiring 1,810 acres for the 72-km PRR project, though farmers are still awaiting compensation.
The PRR project, originally estimated at Rs 21,000 crore, has escalated to Rs 27,000 crore due to increased compensation requirements mandated by law. The revised plan includes 17 toll booths and innovative cloverleaf junctions at strategic locations such as Old Madras Road and Airport Road.
Designed to alleviate Bangalore’s longstanding traffic congestion, the PRR will feature nine entry and exit points incorporating flyovers, underpasses, and railway overbridges.
