Bengaluru: A 50-year-old man was allegedly attacked by four people in Bengaluru Rural’s Magadi area after his son eloped with a woman, with police arresting the accused and registering a case of attempt to murder.

The incident took place near Torehalla on Naganahalli Road on September 22. The victim, identified as Thimmaiah from Madbal village in Magadi taluk, suffered serious injuries and was initially taken to the government hospital in Magadi before being shifted to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru.

Four accused allegedly confronted Thimmaiah

According to the complaint and police account cited by The New Indian Express, Thimmaiah had gone to Torehalla at around 3.30 pm when four men allegedly confronted him and questioned him about the whereabouts of his son Kumar and Veena, the woman with whom Kumar had left the village.

The accused have been identified as Siddalingaiah, his grandson Manu, Adi from Naganahalli and another unidentified man, according to the report.

Police said Siddalingaiah allegedly attacked Thimmaiah with an iron rod after he said he did not know where the couple had gone. Manu, Adi and the fourth man allegedly assaulted and kicked him.

The allegations are based on the victim’s statement recorded by police. The accused have been arrested, but the allegations will be subject to the legal process.

Couple reportedly left village on September 21

The incident followed a relationship between Thimmaiah’s son Kumar and Veena, the granddaughter of Siddalingaiah, both from Madbal village.

According to the police complaint, the two families had learnt about their relationship around four months before the incident. Veena’s parents reportedly opposed the relationship and sent her to stay at a relative’s house while looking for a marriage alliance for her.

Veena subsequently returned home a few days before the incident. She allegedly told Kumar that her parents were planning to arrange her marriage soon.

On September 21, Kumar and Veena reportedly left Madbal without informing their families.

The following day, Thimmaiah went to Torehalla, where he was allegedly confronted by the four men.

Victim shifted to Victoria Hospital

Thimmaiah suffered serious injuries in the alleged assault. He was first taken to the government hospital in Magadi for treatment and was later shifted to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru.

The police registered a case after receiving his complaint and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The incident has brought attention to the risks of family disputes escalating into violence when relationships and marriage decisions are opposed by relatives.

Attempt-to-murder case registered

Magadi police have registered a case of attempt to murder along with other provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), according to The New Indian Express.

Police have arrested the accused in connection with the case. Further investigation is expected to establish the sequence of events, the role of each accused and the circumstances that led to the alleged assault.

The police case will now proceed through the investigation and judicial process. Arrest or registration of a case does not by itself establish the guilt of the accused.

Family dispute escalates into assault

The reported sequence began with opposition from the woman’s family to her relationship with Kumar and later intensified after the couple left Madbal together.

Police are investigating whether the alleged attack was directly linked to the couple’s decision to leave the village and the subsequent efforts by the woman’s relatives to locate them.

The case also highlights the importance of resolving disputes involving relationships and marriage through lawful means rather than violence.

Conclusion

A 50-year-old man was seriously injured in an alleged attack near Torehalla in Magadi after his son reportedly eloped with a woman. Magadi police have arrested four people and registered an attempt-to-murder case along with other BNS provisions. The investigation is continuing.
