Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru was placed on high security alert on February 8 after receiving a bomb threat via email, according to Deccan Herald. The email, originating from ‘mahanteshs6699@proton.me’, warned of a potential drone strike targeting incoming flights at airports in Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kerala.
The sender demanded a response to a letter addressed to Basavaraj Bommai, the former Karnataka Chief Minister. The message ominously stated: “There will be a drone attack on landing flights in Bangalore, Chennai, or Kerala airport if I do not receive a response to my letter from Basavaraj Bommai.”
An FIR has been filed under sections 125 (endangering safety), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 353 (public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and authorities are investigating the source of the email and the threat’s credibility.
Amid the ongoing Aero India 2025 event at Yelahanka Air Force Station, security around the airport has been intensified, including increased surveillance, additional personnel, drone monitoring, and enhanced baggage checks.
In a separate incident, a bomb threat letter was discovered on an international flight that landed in Ahmedabad on February 8. A thorough search of the aircraft was conducted, but no suspicious items were found. The letter, found aboard a Jeddah-Ahmedabad flight, led to an investigation by local police and security agencies.
