A Bengaluru auto-rickshaw driver has gone viral after firmly asking a passenger to clean the backseat before leaving the vehicle, triggering a wider discussion on civic responsibility and respect for shared spaces.
The video, shared on X by Sanatana Kannada, showed the driver calmly checking the seat as the passenger got down.
Driver noticed dirt left behind
In the clip, the passenger initially brushed the seat lightly and began to walk away.
However, the driver noticed bits of dirt and litter still left behind and immediately called the passenger back.
He then insisted that the seat be cleaned properly before the passenger could leave.
The passenger returned and wiped the seat thoroughly while the driver watched.
Social media backs driver
The post strongly supported the driver’s action, saying a passenger pays only for the ride and not for the right to litter, clip nails or dirty the vehicle.
Many online users agreed, saying the driver had every right to protect his vehicle, which is also his source of livelihood.
Civic sense debate grows
The incident sparked a larger conversation about public behaviour and cleanliness in shared transport.
Several users said many people misuse autos, taxis and buses without considering that someone else must clean up afterwards.
Others praised how neat the vehicle appeared and said passengers should leave it in the same condition.
Accountability in daily life
Some users also noted that responsibility should go both ways, with passengers maintaining cleanliness and drivers ensuring hygienic, well-kept vehicles.
Though a small moment, many felt the incident highlighted an important issue often ignored in everyday life — civic sense.
