Bengaluru: Two engineering students were killed after the motorcycle they were travelling on crashed into a roadside shop and then hit a compound wall in Bengaluru in the early hours of Saturday, September 19.
The deceased have been identified as Vachan, 19, and Krishanth alias Pradeep, 21, who were from Chikkamagaluru and were studying at two different colleges in Bengaluru, according to police.
The accident occurred at around 4 am near Itagalpura Gate on Kakolu Road, when the two students were reportedly returning to their room in Dibburahalli after an outing. They were travelling on a Bullet motorcycle when the vehicle crashed.
Bike crashes into roadside shop
According to the police, the motorcycle first hit the wall of a roadside shop before crashing into a compound wall at Itagalpura Gate.
The impact was severe, and both students died at the spot. The Yelahanka traffic police reached the scene and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Another report placed the accident on the Yelahanka-Rajanukunte road and said the crash occurred around 3 am. The difference in the reported timing does not alter the confirmed details that the two students were killed after their motorcycle collided with a shop structure and wall.
Students were returning after an outing
The two students had reportedly gone out before beginning their journey back to their accommodation in Dibburahalli.
Police said they were travelling on a Bullet motorcycle when the accident occurred. The crash happened during the early hours, when traffic on the road would generally have been lighter.
The students’ identities were established as Vachan and Krishanth alias Pradeep. Both were engineering students, and their families were from Chikkamagaluru. They were studying in different colleges in Bengaluru.
The deaths have brought another focus on the risks associated with late-night and early-morning motorcycle travel, particularly when riders are travelling at speed on city outskirts and relatively open stretches of road.
Yelahanka traffic police register case
The Yelahanka traffic police have registered a case and are investigating the accident.
Police suspect that overspeeding may have contributed to the crash, according to the report. The exact sequence of events leading to the motorcycle leaving the road and hitting the roadside structures will be established as part of the investigation.
Investigators are expected to examine the accident site and available evidence to determine how the motorcycle was being ridden immediately before the collision.
The police investigation will also establish whether any other factors contributed to the crash.
