The 52-km-long Bengaluru Business Corridor-2 (BBC-2), formerly known as Peripheral Ring Road-2, is encountering land acquisition resistance from property owners along its proposed route. Recently, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) issued notices for land acquisition, sparking protests.
The project requires 1,400 acres, but landowners of around 250 acres are opposing the acquisition. BBC-2 is designed to connect Hosur Road and Tumakuru Road via Bannerghatta Road, Kanakapura Road, Mysuru Road, and Magadi Road.
The dispute traces back two decades when BDA planned two separate alignments in 2005 and 2006. Initially, the corridor was meant to link Madavara and Magadi Road, but concerns over potential congestion on Tumakuru Road led to a shift in alignment towards Madanayakanahalli.
Now, fresh notices have alarmed residents, many of whom have already built homes and commercial structures in the affected area. Some of these constructions are unauthorized, yet residents are resisting eviction. BDA officials argue that the original 2005 notification was never revoked, making these notices legally valid.
Previously, around 200 landowners staged protests at BDA’s Kengeri office after Bescom disconnected power supply to structures deemed illegal along the corridor’s path.
Meanwhile, BBC-1 remains stalled, with unresolved disputes over compensation delaying tenders.
