Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) efficiently cleared 15 metric tonnes of waste from the Central Business District (CBD) following New Year’s Eve celebrations. The cleanup, conducted between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m., was led by Snehal, East Zone Commissioner, and Basavaraj Kabade, BBMP Chief Engineer. Key streets like MG Road, Church Street, Brigade Road, and Kasturba Road were prioritized during the operation, with 70 pourakarmikas ensuring the area’s transformation.

The waste, consisting of bottles, slippers, and plastic covers, was carefully segregated. Approximately three tonnes of recyclable materials were sent for processing, as confirmed by the BBMP’s statement.

On January 1, a group of 25 residents embarked on a 7-km New Year walk through the CBD. Led by Arun Pai, founder of BangaloreWALKS, participants expected to encounter remnants of the previous night’s revelry. Instead, they were pleasantly surprised by the spotless streets. This annual Treasure Hunt walk, which began at Trinity Circle and traversed Richmond Road, St. Mark’s Road, Brigade Road, and Museum Road, is part of a BBMP initiative inviting citizens to assess the area’s post-party cleanliness.

The walk offered a refreshing start to the year, highlighting the city’s commitment to maintaining public spaces even after large-scale celebrations.
