Bengaluru: Police arrested several students of a minority-based college on attempt to murder charges after a violent clash at Lal Bagh involving swords and machetes, officials said on Thursday.
Incident linked to ragging
The confrontation occurred on Wednesday and came to light after a video of the melee went viral on social media. Police investigations revealed that the dispute began over ragging of junior students by seniors inside the college, which escalated outside the campus into a dangerous confrontation.
Police response
Authorities took prompt action after reviewing the footage, identifying the students involved, and registering cases under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The arrested students are being interrogated as police continue the investigation to determine the sequence of events and involvement of others.
Community concerns
The incident has raised concerns about ragging and campus safety in educational institutions. Police have urged colleges to implement stricter anti-ragging measures and for students to report grievances through proper channels to prevent such violent escalations in the future.
