The alleged abuse of toddlers at a daycare centre operating from Capgemini’s Bengaluru campus has triggered widespread outrage among working parents, with many demanding stricter safety measures, including live CCTV access and continuous monitoring of childcare facilities.

The incident, which came to light after disturbing videos of alleged abuse surfaced online, has shaken the confidence of parents who rely on workplace daycare centres while pursuing their careers.

Parents seek stronger safeguards

Following the incident, social media platforms were flooded with posts from working parents and corporate employees calling for comprehensive reforms in daycare operations.

Among the key demands are live CCTV streaming for parents, round-the-clock video recording of all daycare areas, biometric access systems, regular audits and stricter background verification of caregivers.

Many parents argued that children below the age of three are often unable to communicate if they experience abuse, making continuous monitoring essential for their safety.

Trust in daycare centres shaken

Several parents said they had previously dismissed their children’s reluctance to attend daycare as separation anxiety or routine behavioural changes. The Bengaluru incident, however, has prompted many to reconsider whether such behaviour could sometimes indicate deeper concerns.

Parents stressed that workplace daycare facilities should not be viewed merely as an employee benefit but as environments requiring the highest standards of care, transparency and accountability.

Child rights advocates have also called for surprise inspections, independent third-party audits, mandatory child protection protocols and regular compliance checks to ensure children’s well-being.

Calls for companies to act

The incident has intensified pressure on employers to review the safety standards of childcare centres operating within corporate campuses.

Parents believe restoring confidence will require more than assurances. They say organisations must demonstrate a clear commitment to child safety through stronger oversight, improved governance and transparent operational practices.

Meanwhile, police continue to investigate the alleged abuse, examining CCTV footage, verifying the authenticity of the viral videos and recording statements from parents and witnesses. Authorities have also constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case, while the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and child rights bodies are monitoring the developments.

The case has become a wake-up call for employers, policymakers and childcare providers, highlighting the urgent need to strengthen safeguards for India’s youngest and most vulnerable children.
