A horrifying incident has emerged from Mallenahalli near Attibele in Anekal Taluk on the outskirts of Bengaluru, where a family of four attempted to end their lives amid severe financial distress, leaving two members dead and two critically injured.
According to initial reports, Mohan Gowda (32) allegedly slit the throats of his mother Asha (55), his sister Varshitha (34), and her 11-year-old son Mayank, before attempting to take his own life.
Asha and Varshitha succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while Mohan and young Mayank sustained critical injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
Chilling Video Message Reveals Distress
The incident came to light after Mohan reportedly recorded a disturbing video message explaining the family’s mounting debts and their decision to take the extreme step. The video was sent to relatives, who rushed to the residence.
Finding the front door locked, relatives entered through the back, only to discover the victims in a grievously injured state. Police were alerted immediately.
Senior officials, including Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police Chandrakant, visited the spot and are supervising the investigation.
Financial Burden and Business Losses
Preliminary investigations indicate that the family was under immense financial strain. Mohan was reportedly involved in multiple chit fund operations, handling amounts ranging from ₹5 lakh to ₹50 lakh.
Apart from formal chit businesses, he is said to have run seasonal schemes such as “meat chits” during Ugadi and firecracker-based savings schemes around Diwali.
Police suspect that a combination of business losses and an unsustainable lifestyle contributed to a mounting debt burden that ultimately led to the tragic incident.

Authorities believe the family may have taken the drastic step due to their inability to repay loans. However, police are examining all angles, including possible external pressures or financial disputes.
