A Swiggy delivery executive in Bengaluru was brutally attacked by three unidentified individuals near Modi Hospital Junction late Sunday night, in what police suspect was another instance of road rage, NDTV reported.
The incident, captured on video, has reignited concerns over the safety of gig workers navigating city traffic. According to reports, the delivery rider had stopped at a red light when occupants of the car behind him began honking aggressively, insisting he move forward despite the signal. When he explained he was obeying traffic rules, a heated argument erupted.
Witnesses and footage revealed that the situation escalated quickly. All three men stepped out of their vehicle and allegedly began punching and kicking the rider. The video shows the attackers repeatedly assaulting him before driving away, leaving him injured and bleeding on the road.
The victim later filed a complaint at Basaveshwaranagar Police Station, stating that the assailants appeared intoxicated. Police confirmed receiving the report and said an investigation is underway, though no arrests have been made yet.
In a separate tragic incident recently, 25-year-old Azhar Pasha, also a delivery worker, was killed when a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus ran over his motorcycle at Mysuru Bank Circle. Pasha, who worked for an e-commerce company, was returning home when the fatal collision occurred.
These back-to-back cases have sparked widespread debate about the risks faced by delivery personnel in Bengaluru.
